Demand for Staff in Scotland Continues to Grow... Explains Why GPS Are Still So Busy!

The latest 'IHS Markit' report on jobs data for Scotland was published recently and it makes interesting reading for the recruitment sector in Scotland with Permanent placements in December 2017 continuing to show growth whereas billings received from the employment of Temporary staff declined for the first time since in 13 months.
December’s jobs data for Scotland showed the Perm staff placements increasing for an eleventh consecutive month at a rate of expansion in line with the UK as a whole.
In contrast, billings for Temp staff placements declined for the first time since November 2016, a distinct contrast to the sharp expansion noted at the national level. However, the rate of decline was modest overall.
The demand for Perm and Temp staff, recorded by Scottish recruitment consultancies, continued to increase in December, with Perms again showing a sharp rise. Most sectors are showing strong growth indexes versus previous months, with Hospitality & Catering, Accounts & Financial, and Office Services leading the way in December for Perms amongst Scottish recruiters.
The filling of those job vacancies continued to get harder in December with regards to sourcing good quality candidates, with another fall in the supply of candidates recorded. The availability of Perm candidates fell at the most substantial pace since October 2014 and the rate of decline of Temp staff was the steepest since June 2015. Starting salaries saw another bump upwards partly as a result of this weakening candidate supply versus growing demand.
As you would expect, the overall employment market is reflected in the market for Recruitment Consultancies in terms of demand for quality recruitment staff and a decline in the availability of good candidates. That's why GPS are working harder than ever and generating new ways to source new talent into the industry.
